Spartan Starships by soundwave3591 Spartan Starships by soundwave3591
the Starships of the Spartan Empire. built with technology from the Spartoi, several of these vessels have been dispatched to Planet Nolus to assist in the acquisition of the Corus Shard.

the Themistocles-class MAC vessel. built around the large MAC gun mounted on the lower hull, this vessel is more of an orbital defense vessel, taking up position in orbit for either defense or bombardment.

the Odysseus, a refined model of the Argo, has taken up orbital defense duties alongside the same, along with her sisters Achilles and Nexos

the venerated Argo, which single-handedly destroyed 12 Draken vessels during the battle of Earth

on the higher level, the Mycaea-class assault ship, a true starship equipped with a hyperdrive.
likewise, the Archimedes-class invasion transport. large scale troop carriers designed for atmospheric duties.

and, finally, one of Seven of Sparta's new Leonidas-class battleships. bristling with guns, missiles, and starfighters, these vessels were designed specifically for anti-ship duties.

You upgraded the Yamato....while i can see most of the modifications...i have to ask....what did you do to the third bridge? (the one at the bottom)

added armor so it wouldn't be as much of a death trap. also removing a shot trap the bottom turret would create.

yep. I wrote a short-lived SBY story where the Yamato is forced to face a 3-dimensional battlefield, and they realize how outdated their ship design is when enemies quickly learn to attack them from below, where they cannot be targeted.

simple: an enemy ship flies underneath her and proceeds to blast her to pieces from the underside, moving to stay in that position should she try to maneuver. as all of her heavy guns are clustered up top, she can't shoot back, and if she fired her underside missiles, the explosions would damage her as well.
or.....
come up from below and behind, damage her rather massive engines, and she's immobilized.
or....
plug the wave motion cannon, only DON'T give the Yamato crew time to hotwire it with an inexplicable knowledge of the workings of Garmilas detonators on an experimental weapon that they've never encountered before. it's called a "contact detonator," Desslok. pretty rudimentary.

Yamato has hero shield. she HAS to survive, as she is the mian ship of the story, like the Millennium Falcon or the USS Enterprise. though at least in the original series she was able to take damage: this new one seems to Deus Ex machina it's way out of any situation with that shield.

in reality, she would not have made it out of the solar system: she has to many weak spots, and her design is inefficient for a spaceship: the bridges are rather obvious, as are her weapon systems. a well-placed beam to her missile smokestack could blow her in half. or a drill beam penetrating the ship through the third bridge up: takes out all three bridges, as they are lined up. the Yamato cannot bring any guns to bear on her underside, as all of her weapons are clustered on her upperworks, like a seagoing warship, and it takes time to roll over. plus, her heavy guns cannot fire straight up: a dive-bomb attack can do significant damage.
plus, there's the good minute of charge time with the WMG where she's just sitting there, lined up on the target. plenty of time to launch an attack.
as for those fighters: once again: hero shield. in reality, attrition would have wiped out the Tigers within the first month. you saw how many ships the Garmilas had at Balan: how many fighters do you think those vessels could have carried? you don't need to be an ace pilot to take someone out: just swarm them: someone's gonna get a critical hit in eventually, or the Tiger would otherwise run out of ammo: they do use machine guns after all. fighters can only carry so many rounds: 3-400 at the most: that's enough for about 1 minute of sustained firing. Yamamoto might be better off, as she has energy weapons, but those two are prone to overheating or failure.

Wow......give me the Argo anyday then......still though.....in your discription of the Argo she cannot leave planetary orbit as she is not a deep spacer like Yamato.......why not is my question?

simple: she's an inefficient design, even with the added weapons. plus, rebuilding an oceangoing ship to fly in space would more than likely result in catastrophic structural failure. the hull would need so much bracing that there would be no room for systems.

(I drew this back when i was SBY fanboying, so i've developed other ideas since then.)
