2: for those of you who are wondering, a commonly known aspect of WW2 was the Nazi's penchant for "Super weapons"
Rockets, missiles, jets, Submarines, Atomic weapons, etc. and many people also know about the Germans tastes for Large Cannons, such as the Gustav Railroad gun.
[link]what many people do NOT know is just how far or ridiculous the Germans were truly willing to go. Enter Krupp arms. in 1942, after Gustav had been completed, the design team came forward to Hitler with a design for a Tracked vehicle armed with a Gustav 800mm cannon. Hitler wholeheartedly approved.
[link]weighing in at a Whopping 1500 tons, the Monster, as it came to be known, would have been the largest and heaviest Armored vehicle ever built. it;s main weapon, if the vehicle could have ever been deployed, would have been able to provide artillery cover from almost over the horizon. how such a vehicle could have moved without destroying everything in it's immediate area is not known.
in 1944, Albert Speer, German minster of Armaments, canceled the project. Gustav, the Railroad gun that inspired it, did not survive long after the war, being scrapped as no value could be found for such a massive cannon.
